Rapid Action Battalion apprehends suspects as interim government intensifies commitment to law and order
MYMENSINGH, Bangladesh
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested seven individuals in connection with the brutal murder of Dipu Chandra Das, a 27-year-old Hindu man, in Mymensingh district. Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus announced the arrests while condemning the mob violence and pledging strict action against those responsible.
Das was beaten to death by a mob in the Valuka area of Mymensingh on Thursday, allegedly following accusations of blasphemy. His body was subsequently set on fire by the assailants.

Swift Government Response
In a statement issued Saturday, Muhammad Yunus declared that the interim government is “fully committed to maintaining law and order and bringing the culprits to justice.” The Chief Advisor emphasized that “no form of communal violence will be tolerated” in Bangladesh.
The RAB-14 conducted a special operation that led to the apprehension of seven suspects from various locations. The arrested individuals are currently undergoing interrogation as a thorough investigation unfolds.

The seven accused arrested in connection with the case are:
- Mohammad Limon Sarkar, 19

- Mohammad Manik Mia, 20
- Irshad Ali, 39
- Nijum Uddin, 20

Strong Government Message
Yunus characterized the incident as more than a criminal act. “This is not only a crime against humanity but also an attempt to harm social harmony,” he said, assuring that those responsible would face the full force of the law.
On Friday, the interim government had already issued a comprehensive statement condemning the violence. “We strongly and unequivocally condemn all acts of violence, intimidation, arson, and destruction of property,” the Chief Adviser’s media team stated.
The government further appealed to citizens to uphold peace during what it described as a “critical time,” calling upon them to reject “violence, incitement, and hatred.”

A Critical Moment for Social Cohesion
The incident underscores growing concerns about communal tensions in Bangladesh and the protection of religious minorities. The swift and public response from the interim government—including Yunus’s personal statement and the immediate arrests—signals an attempt to demonstrate accountability and prevent further escalation of violence.
Officials have made clear that in the “new Bangladesh,” there is no room for such violence, reflecting the government’s stated priority of maintaining social harmony and protecting the rights of all citizens regardless of religious affiliation.
