Jammu Airport Unveils DigiYatra and a Suite of Passenger Amenities, Ushering in a New Era of Smart Air Travel

JAMMU — In a landmark development for India’s aviation sector, Jammu Airport has been transformed into a technology-driven travel hub, with Union Minister of Civil Aviation Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu inaugurating a suite of high-tech passenger facilities via video conferencing on Sunday. The centrepiece of the rollout is DigiYatra — a facial recognition-powered system that eliminates the need for physical tickets and documents at every stage of the airport journey.

“The objective is to provide enhanced facilities to passengers while promoting digital innovation to improve service delivery.” — Union Minister Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu

DigiYatra: When Your Face Becomes Your ID DigiYatra leverages cutting-edge facial recognition technology to deliver a fully paperless and contactless travel experience. Passengers can now move seamlessly through entry gates, security checks, and boarding gates — all without ever producing a physical document. The system is anchored in the principle of Self-Sovereign Identity, giving travellers full control over their biometric data.

At the heart of this initiative is a biometric-based ‘Single Token Travel’ system, linked directly to government digital identities. This ensures robust real-time identity verification, significantly enhancing security while simultaneously slashing waiting times and relieving congestion across the terminal.

Flybrary: Pick Up a Book Here, Leave It Somewhere Else Among the more inventive additions is the Flybrary — a community-driven book exchange programme unique to the aviation sector. Unlike conventional airport libraries, this system operates on a pay-it-forward model: passengers may pick up a book at Jammu Airport and leave it at any other participating airport across India.

A Range of Passenger-First Amenities The newly launched facilities extend well beyond digital innovation. Families travelling with young children will find a dedicated Kids Play Area. Complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi is now available throughout the terminal. On the culinary front, water and tea are priced at just ₹10 each, while coffee, sweets, and samosas are available for ₹20 apiece.

Empowering Local Artisans and Self-Help Groups Prominent retail spaces inside the terminal will be allocated to local artisans and Self-Help Groups, providing these communities with a high-footfall platform to showcase and sell their products.
